She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1994 on organometallic transformations of oxabicyclic systems, followed by postdoctoral research at Columbia University on the total synthesis of gelsemine under Prof. S. J. Danishefsky.
Since starting her independent career at HKU in 2001, she has developed cascade cycloaddition reactions, copper‑mediated methods for medium‑ring synthesis, and contributed extensively to medicinal chemistry, while also holding key academic leadership roles.
