Getting to Tenerife

Reaching the island is the first step. Below are the main options for flying to Tenerife and travelling comfortably to the conference location.

Tenerife South Airport – Reina Sofía (TFS)

The island’s largest airport, with direct connections to many international destinations. It is the main entry point for most international attendees.

Tenerife North Airport (TFN)

Located closer to La Laguna and Santa Cruz. Best suited for domestic flights or connections from mainland Spain.

    Recommended upon arrival, especially for direct travel to La Laguna or your accommodation.

  • Intercity bus

    Operated by TITSA, with routes covering most of the island.

  • Car rental

    A convenient option if you plan to explore the island or prefer greater flexibility.

  • Urban public transport and tram

    Useful for moving around La Laguna and Santa Cruz once settled.

From Tenerife South Airport (TFS)

    Approximately 40–45 minutes (60–65 km), depending on traffic.

  • By bus

    Intercity buses operated by TITSA connect Tenerife South with La Laguna, sometimes requiring a transfer.
    Total travel time is around 1 hour.

From Tenerife North Airport (TFN)

  • By car or taxi

    Approximately 15–20 minutes (5–7 km).

  • By bus

    Direct TITSA routes connect the airport with La Laguna.
    Travel time is approximately 20–25 minutes.

Climate

Tenerife enjoys mild weather year-round. Bring a light jacket for the evening, especially in La Laguna, which sits at a higher altitude, and for indoor venues.

Getting around

Public transport is reliable for moving between La Laguna and Santa Cruz. TITSA operates intercity buses across the island, and the tram is a convenient option for urban travel.
If you plan to explore beyond the conference, renting a car or joining organised excursions is recommended.

Language and culture

Spanish is the primary language, but English is widely used in academic and professional settings. Taking some time to experience local Canarian culture is highly encouraged.

Currency and power adapters

Spain uses the euro (€). Power outlets are type F (standard European plugs).

Take time to disconnect

Not everything has to be on the schedule. A short walk through La Laguna’s historic centre, a coffee break, or a visit to a nearby viewpoint can be an easy way to enjoy the island between sessions.
