Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas de Cataluña (ICIQ)
Professor at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) and a leading figure in organic and organometallic chemistry, particularly in gold‑ and palladium‑catalyzed reactions.
After completing his Ph.D. at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1982 and postdoctoral work at Boston College, he held academic positions at UAM, Colorado State University, and CSIC before moving to ICIQ in 2004 to lead a research group. He pioneered gold‑catalyzed synthetic methodologies applied to natural product synthesis and advanced the development of gold carbenes and asymmetric catalysis.
He has led major research projects, including ERC grants, and served as President of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2018–2025).
